I know several young people who have had entirely unrelated work experience to their eventual degree course. Although it makes sense to have some experience (and there is already at least one good answer on this), it is not usually mandatory.

I see I’ve been given a thumbs down for this, yet it is true. Not all young people know exactly what they want to do. and although relevant work experience may assist in gaining a place where places are scarce, it may not.

How does one get their photography into magazines?

I know some photographers actually work for specific magazines, but I also know that freelancers provide photos as well. How do you get your pictures into magazines? Do you just send them in and hope for the best?

Get hold of the “freelance photographers handbook” in the UK or the equivalent in the US.

These have details of virtually all publishers/mags etc and how to submit.

basically, you need to submit them to the picture editor with covering letter etc.
If they want to use them then they will contact you and you then agree terms.
Alternatively, submit to stock libraries.

Make sure you study the magazines you plan to submit to before doing anything and ensure you only submit the type and style of shots they are likely to use.

Stand by for a lot of rejections and no responses though as these people get hundreds of submissions a day.

What is the difference between bigwater fishing and saltwater fishing?

Bigwater fishing is just a term for fishing deepwater. Deepwater can be salt or fresh. I almost always fish saltwater and harldy ever fish deeper than 5′. I don’t understand what the previous answerer said about saltwater being merkier? It’s all about where you are. Most of the time Bigwater Fishing refers to Offshore fishing in the ocean, also refered to as Bluewater fishing

What is the quality of fishing at Basin Bayou on Choctawhatchee Bay near Portland, FL?

I’m planning a fishing trip on Basin Bayou and would like to know how the fishing there is? I haven’t been able to find any fishing reports on this particular bayou and would love information from anyone that’s fished it.

I’m not going to lie, I had to look to see where Portland, Fl is. I’ve never fished in that particular area and dont know anyone that has but this time of year the fishing is good. I fish throughout Florida including the panhandle and this time of year Seatrout, Redfish and Scallops and sharks are the main targets of most people. I’m not really sure what you are after but the best fishing is done early morning or late afternoon. Email me specifics and I’ll help you out

tarpon fishing

can you use this type of lure to catch large tarpon?

we saw a bunch of huge tarpon off this fishing pier, and we’re trying to figure out the best way to get one hooked. we are going back tomorrow, and were gonna try throwing live finger mullet and this lure (that i picked up today) at it. any other advice is helpful, but my question is, is there a chance this lure will work, and can this lure be used by reeling instead of trolling, cause were fishing from a pier, not a boat. http://www.mannsbait.com/TopPerformers/TP-BlueWater.html
the lure i bought is the “30 +” one at the top of the page.

you could but not from a bridge. It’s best to use those lures if you’re in a boat and are able to chase down the Tarpon. Stick with the finger mullets, you’ll have a better chance. By the way, free line the mullet, Tarpon get spooked by the floats.~good luck catchin’.
