wilderness camping equipment Any wilderness / remote camping sites in Pennsylvania?
Hey, me and about 7 of my friends are looking to go camping this June for a couple nights and we’re trying to find a place in Pennsylvania to camp that is a off the beaten path (i.e. not a lot of other campers). Does anyone know any good places? Preferably something that could be driven to and wouldn’t require a long hike (too much equipment to carry)? Any help would be appreciated!
Your best bet is going to be someplace in the Allegheny National Forest in Northern PA.
Most of the state parks within a 2hr. drive of Phiily or P-burgh are gonna have other campers. There’s plenty of great places throughout the state if you want to hike into the campsite, but “wilderness” and “Car-camping” kind of cancel each other out. Check out the web page for the National Forest and it will give you some details.
There is no restriction (generally) when camping on State Forest lands, but each forest has its own regulations set forth by the supervisor. You’d have to check the PA Bureau of Forestry page for phone numbers to contact the Forest Supervisor’s office because they are not all that great about updating the individual pages for the specific state forests.
Car camping at a trailhead is generally frowned upon by the Forestry Bureau and they might ask you to leave. Camping on PA State Game lands is not allowed. If you choose to do that and get caught, the Cons Officers will make you leave and give you a ticket.
I need help planning a trip?
Recently, I was planning to walk through the parts American (you know, through the desert camping and stuff like that). I just need some advice on the team knows knives, a shotgun and perhaps other things. I want to take all that much one installation to continue.
Most States holding a knife in his pocket can be considered a crime, is probably not the best idea. A person walking with a shotgun tends to attract much attention. If you come to town and wants to go to a store or restaurant, what do you do with the shotgun? You can not stop standing against the wall near the door. Seems to have little experience in the country and you may want to rethink that. Knives and firearms are nothing to do with the country recover. Hunting is regulated on a seasonal or totally banned in vast areas, with a firearm does not sense. A large knife is no more to lose weight, everything you cut the string and slice meat enough. I carry a Swiss Army knife with a blade 1 1 / 2 inches that's all I ever needed nearly 40 years of touring. Before jumping into a big trip, perhaps you should try to go somewhere for a couple of nights and see what it is. Get this unique? Have you ever spent the night in the dense forest, miles of road, by himself?
hiking wisconsin state parks Have you ever watched TV and seen a special about a mythical creature seen in your neighborhood?
I have now seen two specials on TV about “where wolves” or “dog men” being seen in and around the Kettle Moraine State Parks in Wisconsin. I used to spend considerable time hiking and biking on those trails. I went deep into those parks (they’re huge!) and never saw any odd creatures. However I did see some huge wolves. They must be eating well. Most of the sightings and attacks happened on a trail I traveled the most, but I didn’t see anything. Anyway, have you ever seen any specials about your neighborhood like this? What did you think about the eyewitness testimonies? Did you see anything that might shed some light on the stories?
Many years ago I was fishing with about five friends at night for catfish on the Rocky River in North Carolina and some animal was making a loud screeching noise. None of us could actually see it. We had a camp fire next to the water. Whatever this was it was crossing the river back and forth in a circle around us. The river isn’t very wide, but the water is swift and it’s Rocky.
When we finally decided to leave we had to climb a steep high embankment, and I ended up last up the hill, and I was carrying the stringer of fish. Whatever it was it came within ten feet of me and was vigorously shaking the small trees near where I was. At that time I was at a chest high rock that I needed to climb over, but I just stood there for a bit while it shook the trees while making it’s loud noise because I was too scared to turn my back on it to climb up and over that rock.
There had been reports in the news around that time of several big foot sightings, and the local press had nick named it “Knobby.” We had driven to Cabaras County where the sightings had occurred to go fishing. I think it might have wanted the fish I was carrying, and I really wish I had pulled one off the stringer and threw it toward it.
It was making that loud screeching noise very near us as we were leaving. The reason I ended up last was because we were fighting our way up the hill against each other and I ended up getting pulled backwards as we were all in a mad rush to leave. I was ahead of most of them but when I first tried to climb over the rock others were climbing over me and using me for leverage and I ended up getting pulled off of the rock.
I never actually saw it, but I think we encountered whatever was being reported in the media. In later years I heard recordings on TV believed to be by a big foot, and the sound was very similar to what I heard, a high pitched sound.
So, yes, it was what could be termed a mythical creature in my neighborhood.
