mountaineering equipment Are editions of “Mountaineering: Freedom of the Hills” very different?
I would like to purchase supposedly THE guide to climbing, and I notice that previous editions are considerably cheaper. I am quite new to climbing and would like to read about fundamentals, techniques, equipment, etc.
Should I go ahead an get the 6th (1992) edition, or has so much changed or is there so much new material that the 7th (2003) is a much better choice?
Thanks.
The newer edition is updated for belays, bouldering, sport climbing, and other techniques including better sections on ice tools and use.
There’s enough of significance in revisions that I can recommend the most recent edition as having a lot of details that have changed since the 1992 edition in both technique and equipment.
Another book worth a look is by Falcon Press on anchoring, definitely a good reference.
