Serious question for a change….Is it legal , to hunt elk in washington state with a shot gun?

I’ve always wondered this because I have never seen anyone carrying a shot gun during elk season., Unless they were grouse hunting.

Yes, slugs only in 10 or 12 gauge. Here is what is says in hunting laws.

Big game hunting in Washington State has many requirements and regulations. Big game includes deer, bear, elk, cougar, goat, bighorn sheep, and moose. Under all circumstances it is illegal to fire a weapon from a vehicle. A lot of people hunt big game with modern firearms. The minimum size rifle to hunt deer, elk and bear is a 24 caliber or 6mm center fire. Rimfire rifles are illegal to use for hunting big game. Handguns must have a minimum four-inch barrel and fire a minimum of a 24 caliber center fire bullet. Deer, bear, and cougar may be hunted with 20 to 10 gauge shotguns shooting a #1 or larger buckshot. Other big game may be hunted with 10 to 12 gauge shotguns shooting slugs.

Do yo have any great ideas for our camping trip for our dinners??

I don’t know how fancy you are wanting to go here…. but…

You could also grill brats and kielbasa (or hot dogs) and heat up some chili and/or sauerkraut and make chili dogs.

BBQ Grilled chicken w/ baked beans. Potato or macaroni salad (keep in cooler).

You could prepare shish kabobs at home beforehand w/ chunks of chicken, peppers, pineapple, zucchini and marinate them in teriyaki sauce (store them in Ziploc bags in the cooler).. and grill them up over the campfire. Use the wooden skewers (wet them first).

Now… we always go the easy route like Khrys and bain said… and grill hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and a pickle… it’s just easier and not as time consuming. Plus, the taste of a hamburger grilled over the campfire is heavenly!!

This weekend, though, we are taking some big ole steaks!! You can’t go wrong there!!
